Hi, I'm Jackie.
After years of struggling with a range of unexplained symptoms—like chronic fatigue and digestive issues—I was frustrated by being told my lab results were "normal." I knew something wasn't right, but traditional medicine couldn’t pinpoint the problem.
Everything changed when I discovered functional nutrition. With guidance from a nutrition coach, I followed a personalized 30-day plan focused on balancing my blood sugar, reducing inflammation, and supporting gut health. By the end of that month, I was feeling healthier, and my symptoms began to lessen or even disappear. I was also able to stop taking the six prescription medications I had relied on. This experience revealed the true power of nutrition in addressing the root causes of my health issues.
After healing my own body, I recognized that several of my family members were also suffering from undiagnosed illnesses and were desperate for answers. Driven by a desire to help them and others, I joined the Functional Nutrition Alliance, where I became certified in functional nutrition. As a retired instructional designer, I now enjoy sharing my knowledge by providing eLearning lessons, writing blogs and coaching others on their healing journeys.
I am not a nutritionist; I am a functional nutrition counselor/coach.
A nutritionist and a functional nutrition counselor both focus on food and nutrition, but they approach it from slightly different perspectives.
Nutritionist: A nutritionist typically has a background in nutrition science and focuses on providing guidance on general healthy eating principles. Nutritionists often help individuals manage chronic diseases, achieve weight loss or gain goals, address specific nutrient deficiencies, and promote overall wellness through dietary changes.
Functional Nutrition Counselor: Functional nutrition counseling, on the other hand, involves a more holistic approach to health and wellness. Functional nutritionists or counselors consider not only the nutritional aspects of food but also how different foods interact with an individual's body systems and overall health. They often look for underlying imbalances or dysfunctions in the body and use food as a tool to address these issues. This approach may involve identifying food sensitivities, optimizing digestion, balancing hormones, and addressing inflammation or other underlying factors contributing to health concerns.
People come to me because they just don't feel good, but the doctors say there is nothing wrong. Or they've been diagnosed with something and want to help their bodies heal.
If we provide the right nutrition to our bodies, it can work miracles. Just as God intended!
